Aurora San Diego provides inpatient care, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient program for older adults ages 65 and older whose acute psychiatric symptoms require a safe and therapeutic environment. We also provide inpatient care for detoxification and rehabilitation from chemical dependency and intensive outpatient programs for chemical dependency and dual diagnosis that specifically address the physiology of older adults. Our team of older adult specialists recognize and understand the needs of older adult patients dealing with emotional and psychological disorders and chemical dependency during different the later stages of their lives. The goal of our programs is to provide stabilization of immediate concerns within a safe and structured environment. The treatment is short-term with the primary focus being on the reduction of symptoms and overall improvement of functioning.
Older Adult Program – Generations Program
Aurora Behavioral Health Care San Diego recognizes the unique needs of patients entering treatment during the later stages of life. In response to the community’s need for acute care treatment aimed at addressing these unique needs, Aurora developed a program specifically designed to provide an in- depth diagnostic process, relying on the expertise of several Geriatric Mental Health Practitioners, to generate comprehensive treatment plans which are individually crafted to meet each patient’s needs and produce quick and lasting change.
Older adult patients seek treatment at Aurora to address issues such as depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, disorientation, paranoia, behavioral issues and chemical dependency. It is common during the later stages of life for patients’ conditions to be the result of, or to be further complicated by, physical challenges as a result of the aging process, as well as the experience of grief and loss. At Aurora San Diego, we are committed to addressing all aspects of the individual’s treatment through our comprehensive assessment and treatment protocols.

- Mood Disorders (Depression, Bipolar Disorder)
- Anxiety Disorders (Generalized Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia)
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Poor impulse control

Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Programs
Aurora San Diego also offers Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs specifically designed for older adults. During the assessment and admission process, our clinical staff will determine the appropriate level of care for the individual. Inpatient hospitalization is not a necessary requirement to be admitted into PHP or IOP, older adults may directly admit into outpatient programs.
