Outpatient Services

Aurora San Diego provides outpatient care in the form of partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) for those whose acute psychiatric symptoms require a safe and therapeutic environment.  We also provide intensive outpatient programs for chemical dependency and dual diagnosis that specifically address the needs of individuals in recovery from substance abuse.  Our team of outpatient specialists recognize and understand the needs of patients dealing with emotional and psychological disorders and chemical dependency who are looking to continue to titrate to lower levels of care.   The goal of our programs is to help individuals develop their recovery and achieve success in their lives.

Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP)

The Partial Hospitalization Program, or PHP, is a comprehensive outpatient program that provides support and treatment for individuals facing emotional difficulties or mental health challenges. Our program offers all of the programming features of inpatient care, but without the overnight hospital stay. The structured format provides physician oversight, plus therapeutic groups and activities. Since PHP participants return home in the evenings, they are able to maintain important links to their family and to their community.

The programs include:

  • Comprehensive Assessment
  • Psychiatric Management
  • Individualized Treatment Plan
  • Education Regarding Diagnosis
  • Group Therapy focused on helping patients to obtain life/coping skills and to return to an optimal level of functioning.
  • 12-Step Orientation/Drug & Alcohol Education (as appropriate)
  • Encouragement of family support and recovery

Age specific PHP programs are offered for children, adolescents, adults and older adults.

Psychiatric Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)

The Intensive Outpatient Program, or IOP, is designed to provide a concentrated, time-limited, comprehensive therapeutic environment for the treatment of mental health and substance abuse issues. Our IOP group therapy is designed for those seeking tools and principles of recovery either as a step down from an inpatient or partial hospitalization setting, or simply someone needing treatment and support.

Since we are hospital based, patients have access to a multidisciplinary team of experts that includes psychiatrists, psychologists, registered nurses, master’s-level therapists and chemical dependency counselors.  For psychiatric patients, groups meet three hours a day, and the frequency and duration are dependent on the patient’s unique treatment plan.

Age specific psychiatric IOP programs are offered for adults and older adults.

Chemical Dependency & Dual Diagnosis Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)

The Intensive Outpatient Program, or IOP, is designed to provide a concentrated, time-limited, comprehensive therapeutic environment for the treatment of mental health and substance abuse issues. Our IOP group therapy is designed for those seeking tools and principles of recovery either as a step down from an inpatient detoxification and/or rehabilitation (or a non-hospital based residential setting), or simply someone needing treatment and support.

Since we are hospital based, patients have access to a multidisciplinary team of experts that includes psychiatrists, psychologists, registered nurses, master’s-level therapists and chemical dependency counselors.  For chemical dependency patients, each group meets three hours a day, three days a week, usually for an eight week period.   For dual diagnosis patients, groups meet three hours a day, and the frequency and duration are dependent on the patient’s unique treatment plan.

Age specific chemical dependency and dual diagnosis IOP programs are available for adolescents, adults, and older adults.
